SEE Law School Network
Representatives of the Law Faculties from the South East Europe on June 28th and 29th 2010 participated at the Kick-off meeting for developing the concept for a new Regional Initiative “SEE Law School Network” held at the Law Faculty “Iustinianus Primus” in Skopje and supported by GTZ Open Regional Fund - Legal Reform. The Law Faculties from SEE present at the meeting agreed to undertake activities aiming to strengthen their cooperation by introducing more extensive mode of regional cooperation by establishing SEE Law School Network.
The discussions of the Law Faculties of the State Universities of Tirana (Albania), Sarajevo and Zenica (Bosnia and Hecegovina), Rijeka, Split and Zagreb (Croatia), Podgorica (Montenegro), Skopje (Macedonia) and Belgrade, Kragujavec and Nis (Serbia) lead to conclusion that they have common goal - to develop legal knowledge that will contribute to the EU integration processes undertaken in the region. Such common goal understands development of high standards of legal education, exchange of ideas and people, through research on the legislative developments in the region, production and access to information etc. The network to be established will provide the need platform for these activities. It is foreseen that the SEE Law School Network will focus its work in three areas: Education, Research and Publication. In the field of education the Law Faculties will cooperate on development and promotion of legal education activities for students and legal professionals that have a regional approach and EU perspective. Within this component, activities will be undertaken to facilitate exchange of students and academic staff so as to contribute to the exchange of ideas in the region. Through the network joint research activities production of relevant publications for their wider societal outreach and influence will be promoted. In the next period, the members of the SEE Law School Network will work on the development of the activities aimed at establishment of legal community in the region that will enhance the EU integration and approximation processes and improve the rule of law in the SEE countries.
The representatives of the Law Faculties agreed the seat of the Standing Secretariat for the SEE Law School Network to be placed at the Law Faculty “Iustinianus Primus” - Skopje. In the following months the Law Faculties will work on the development of the legal framework for the set up and the functioning of the network. The set-up and launching of the SEE Law School Network for the interim period of three years will be supported by the GTZ Open Regional Fund - Legal Reform.
